Tarpum Bay School - Library and Computer Lab
Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas

This room at the Tarpum Bay School sat empty for lack of resources. Island Relief filled it with refurbished computers and created a computer lab.

Now this formerly empty space is a sunny classroom and the school was able to add computer courses to the curriculum.

Island Relief also renovated the school's library prior to
filling it with books and computers.

This former storage room in the local government building came complete with wall to wall shelving, just waiting to be made useful. Island Relief transformed the room in a single day, stocking it full of books for the community to enjoy

This project was so successful the community was able to acquire another building - a former teacher's residence - to renovate into a much larger library.

Palmetto Point Library and Resource Center
Palmetto Point, Eleuthera, Bahamas

The local government provided a building and completed the renovations necessary to make it a community library and resource center. Island Relief's Lisa Krupp met with local officials Ivan Ferguson and Hank Johnson to tour the library Island Relief stocked with books.

SUCCESS IN THE MAKING: Weymss Bight Community Center
Weymss Bight, Eleuthera, Bahamas

This project is part of a Ministry of Education effort to establish libraries. A large group of community volunteers worked to acquire a building formerly used by the Ministry as a teacher's residence, and they were thrilled when permission was granted to use it as a library and resource center.

Work is well under way, and in February 2006 Island Relief delivered computers and hundreds of pounds of books to the Ministry of Education for use in this community center.
